Tanush Bhatia
Technology Head
Tanush Bhatia is a senior at Skyline High School currently researching in genomics and AI at Cornell University, where he works on computational methods to study population genetics. His interest in applying computer science to real-world problems has also earned him two 2nd place awards at the Washington State Science Fair. He is the founder of Code4Good, a student-run nonprofit that has reached over 500 students through hackathons, tech workshops, and digital literacy programs. Alongside this, he runs a web development agency that has built over 100 websites for small businesses and nonprofits, managing a team of 10 interns and leading all client outreach and development. Tanush has played competitive chess for over 11 years and ranks among Washington’s top 10. As Varsity Captain, he led Skyline’s team to 1st in districts, 2nd in state, and 11th nationally—the school’s highest finish in the past 40 years. He’s also a two-time individual state champion at the Washington Scholastic Chess Championships. Beyond academics, Tanush was selected as one of only five students out of over 10,000 to serve on his school district’s Technology Committee, advising district leaders on student-facing tech initiatives. He also serves as Director of Internal Affairs for Skyline DECA, leading the largest DECA chapter in Washington and one of the largest globally with 600+ members. He’s a triple DECA state qualifier, a 1x ICDC qualifier, and a four-time TSA state qualifier. Tanush began at iStart Valley as an intern, earned a PVSA, joined the Youth Executive Council, and now serves as Head of Technology.
