Recognizing Youth Leadership & Innovation During PVSA Pause

At iStart Valley, we believe that service is not just about hours - it is about impact.

For years, iStart Valley has proudly nominated deserving interns and youth leaders for the Presidential Volunteer Service Award (PVSA), administered by AmeriCorps. This prestigious national recognition honors individuals who demonstrate exceptional commitment to volunteer service.

However, with the PVSA program temporarily on hold until further notice, we asked ourselves an important question:

Should youth leadership recognition pause simply because a national program is paused?

Our answer was clear - No.

What is the IVSA?

The iStart Valley Volunteer Service Awards (IVSA) is an interim recognition program created to continue honoring volunteers who demonstrate leadership, dedication, and measurable service impact.

The IVSA:

  • Upholds the same high standards as the PVSA
  • Uses identical hour-based qualification criteria
  • Recognizes service in leadership, entrepreneurship, STEM, technology, and innovation
  • Maintains transparency in documentation and verification

This ensures continuity and credibility for students seeking meaningful volunteer recognition for college applications, scholarships, and professional development.

Why Volunteer Recognition Matters for Students

In today’s competitive academic landscape - especially for students aiming for top universities - verified volunteer service hours demonstrate:

  • Leadership
  • Initiative
  • Community engagement
  • Commitment beyond academics
  • Long-term impact

At iStart Valley, our interns do not just log hours - they:

  • Build startups to create jobs
  • Lead community initiatives
  • Develop AI and technology solutions
  • Mentor younger students
  • Organize innovation summits
  • Contribute to research and entrepreneurial programs

This is volunteerism rooted in innovation.

Volunteer Awards Nationwide

As a national nonprofit based in Austin, iStart Valley continues to support youth volunteers locally and nationally. Our IVSA ensures:

  • Students nationwide receive continued volunteer recognition
  • High school interns maintain momentum for college admissions
  • Youth leaders remain motivated despite national program pauses
  • Service contributions are formally acknowledged

This approach reinforces our mission of building future-ready leaders through experiential entrepreneurship and STEM innovation.

Our Commitment Moving Forward

While the Presidential Volunteer Service Award program remains paused, iStart Valley remains steadfast in its commitment to recognizing excellence.

The IVSA is not a replacement for PVSA, it is a reflection of our responsibility to the students who dedicate hundreds of hours to meaningful service.

When the national program resumes, we will continue participation accordingly.

Until then, we will continue celebrating leadership, service and innovation - without interruption.
